Clinic Rules

⭐️ General

  • Clinic Hours are from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM: Please make sure to arrive on time for all your scheduled activities.

  • Stay in the Area: Stay within the designated clinic area on fairgrounds; do not enter other areas.

  • Health & Release Forms: Health & Release forms need to be completed and the release policy followed.

  • Parent Emergency Release Form: If the participant is staying with a leader, make sure they have a signed parent emergency release form.

  • Liability: The Allegan County 4-H program, 4-H Horse Leaders Association, 4-H Five-Day Horse Clinic, and the Allegan County Fair are not responsible for any loss or damage to horses, tack, feed, or vehicles.

🕒 Participation Guidelines

  • Be On Time: All participants are expected to attend their scheduled activities. Check the class schedule and be on time!

  • Be Weather Ready: Come prepared for any weather conditions—we could have sun, heat, rain, or anything in between!

⚠️ Safety Rules

  • Emergency ‘Freeze’ Command: If you hear the word “FREEZE”, stop all activity immediately! Look around and be aware of your surroundings. This command is given when a hazardous or potentially hazardous situation develops. 

  • Follow Instructions: All participants must obey safety procedures and rules given by instructors. Do not enter assigned areas until instructed.

  • Listen to Clinic Staff: All clinic staff and commitee members must be obeyed at all times.

  • Helmets Required: SEI/ASIEM approved helmets are required in the arena and round pens at all times.

  • Safe Horse Equipment: Make sure all your tack fits well and is safe for use.

  • Horse and Pony Management:

    • Horses and ponies are to be under control at all times.

    • Horses and ponies should not be ridden outside of class.

    • Horses and ponies must be ridden in full tack unless otherwise directed.

    • NO switching horses and ponies throughout the clinic without prior instructor approval.

  • Stay in the Area: Stay within the designated clinic area on fairgrounds; do not enter other areas.

  • No Electronics: Do not use electronic devices or earbuds while in class.

  • No dogs or bikes. 

🤝 Conduct Expectations

  • Be Respectful: Always treat your fellow riders, instructors, and horses with kindness and respect.

  • Listen to Your Instructors: Your instructors are here to help you learn and stay safe—so please follow their guidance.

  • Support One Another: Encourage your friends and work together! Teamwork makes everything more enjoyable.

  • Judgment-Free Zone: Focus on your own progress and remember that everyone is on their own journey.

😄 Attitude & Enjoyment

  • Stay Positive: Keep a good attitude! Everyone learns at their own pace, and that’s completely fine.

  • Have Fun: Most importantly, enjoy your time here! Riding is an exciting adventure, so make the most of your experience in the clinic!

Behavioral Expectations

4-H Horse leaders and members when participating or acting on behalf of the Allegan County 4-H Youth Program are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with accepted standards of social behavior, to respect the rights of others, and to refrain from any conduct which may be injurious to the program.  It is expected that 4-H Leaders and members will conduct themselves according to the code of conduct they signed as part of their 4-H enrollment in 4HOnline.
