DRESSAGE

The Fundementals

Dressage focuses on developing a harmonious partnership between horse and rider, emphasizing precision, balance, and effective communication to execute movements with grace and fluidity.

Key Elements 🐴

  • Rider Position - Maintaining correct posture and balance for clear communication.

  • Aids - Using subtle and effective signals (seat, legs, reins) to guide the horse.

  • Basic Movements - Precise execution of walk, trot, canter, transitions, and halt.

  • Rhythm & Tempo - Consistent and balanced movement.

  • Suppleness & Straightness - Developing the horse's flexibility and correct alignment.

Evaluation Requirements for Participation

To ensure the safety and proper skill placement of all participants, the following youth must have their horsemaster levels evaluated BEFORE registering for the clinic:

  • First-Time Participants: All riders joining for the first time, regardless of their horsemaster level.

  • Level Advancement: Any past participant wishing to progress to a higher horsemaster level.

  • New Horse Entries: Returning participants who will be riding a different horse.

Class Info 

Class fees are $60.00 per class

*Participants must be 8 years old by January 1st(current year) or older*

Patterns, gaits, and all activities will be at discretion of the instructor and may vary in order to maintain safety. Please be sure that your horse and you fit the criteria for the class.

Western & Classical Dressage 3/4/5

For riders with intermediate or advanced skills.

 

Class Overview

This class builds on the theory and knowledge necessary to complete the Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) tests or United States Dressage Federation (USDF) tests. Riders may choose which discipline to pursue, Western or Classical. This class is geared to those who would like to explore the world of dressage and possibly compete in Dressage at the Allegan Fair or MIHA Equestrian Teams.

Fundamental Skills:

  • Understanding the principles of dressage

  • Developing a balanced and effective seat

Gait Techniques:

  • Controlled walking, trotting, and cantering

Advanced Skills:

  • Mastery of dressage movements as per WDAA or USDF standards

Exercises and Drills:

  • Progressive training exercises to improve precision and responsiveness

  • Practice of test movements in an arena setting, focusing on transitions and refined communication with the horse
